Book Notice: Between Theolgy and Anti-Theology

February 4, 2013

The work of philosopher, Alain Badiou has been influential among biblical scholars and theologians in recent years. Specifically, Badiou’s reading of the Apostle Paul has received a tremendous amount of attention in the aforementioned circles. In his forthcoming book, Between Theology and Anti-Theology, my colleague in theology, Dr. Hollis Phelps provides a thorough examination of the place of theology in Badiou’s philosophy. I (somewhat jokingly) say that Hollis also provides a definitive reading of Badiou’s views on Paul (and again, I am only somewhat joking). The word “brilliant” is thrown around so much in academia as to be devoid of any real meaning. However, this is precisely the word I use to describe Dr. Phelps and the exceptional insights I am privileged to gain continually from him. Take a moment to check out his book. You won’t be disappointed. Also, here’s a link to a post over at Political Theology in which Hollis previews the book.
